Bank robber

MONROE, Wash. -- Police here say a man who robbed an armored car driver at a bank Tuesday morning jumped into the Skykomish River on an inner tube to get away.

Officers are searching the water and riverbank, and a Sheriff helicopter was circling the area, but so far there's no sign of the man.

Police spokeswoman Debbie Willis said the man robbed an armored car driver at the Bank of America branch at 19917 Old Owen Road about 11 a.m.

Mitch Ruth, who works across the street from the bank, said the robber sprayed the armored car driver with pepper spray and wrestled a bag of money away from the driver.

Ruth said he first spotted the robber pacing along the bushes outside the bank while holding a garden sprayer and wearing a surgical mask, a wig and sunglasses.

"(He) looked like a worker working on the grounds or around," said Ruth.

When the man took off with the money, Ruth tried to chase the man down but lost him in the woods.

"He was a lot faster than I was," he said. "I was never able to see his face."

Investigators said the robber was carrying a gun.

The bank did not disclose the amount of money it lost, but a former bank teller said judging by the size of the bag taken from the armored car driver, she believes the robber made off with about $50,000.

Here are some comments, That we thought were funny.

1.Well with the price of gas nowadays...even them thar thieves are having a difficult time. I can see planning that went into this one............used innertube, $3.00 - finding the pepper spray at the local hardware store $6.99 - placing the innertube in the 'right place' $-0-...pulling off the heist and escaping by innertube....'Priceless.."

2. I can hear Jeff Foxworthy now...

"If you've ever pepper sprayed an armored car gard and ... made your escape on an inner tube down river... you might be a red neck"

3.Now if the innertube starts to sink, and the guy jumps out with the bag of money, is it a FINANCIAL BAILOUT!

4.Heh, I think we're all laughing because nobody got hurt. Except, of course, if the innertube's valve was pointing the wrong way...

We lost a friend

If you think about it please pray for our friend Bruce's family. He had a wife named Jo and two grown kids. He was diagnosed with cancer about a month ago and passed away last Friday. He was a Christian, and we know he is with God now, But our hearts break for his family.

Bruce A. Johnston, 53, of Snohomish, WA, passed away September 26, 2008 in Kirkland, WA. Bruce was born April 10, 1955 in Ballard, WA, to Sherman and Ardell Johnston. He attended Ballard High School.
Bruce married Jo Jones on April 11, 1980 in Seattle, WA. He was the owner of Fleetwood Nursery for 28 years. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ardell; father, Sherman; brother, Edward; and brother, Brian.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Jo Johnston; daughter, Jennie Johnston; son, Thomas Johnston; sister, Anne Mueller; brother, Scott Johnston; and many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. Bruce made a friend everywhere he went. He will greatly be missed.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., October 4, 2008, at Snohomish First Assembly, 1220 22nd St. Snohomish, WA 360-568-5100

PETA suggests breast milk for ice cream

WATERBURY, Vt. -- Mooove over, Holsteins. PETA wants world-famous Ben & Jerry's Homemade Ice Cream to tap nursing moms, rather than cows, for the milk used in its ice cream.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is asking the ice cream maker to begin using breast milk in its products instead of cow's milk, saying it would reduce the suffering of cows and calves and give ice cream lovers a healthier product.

The idea got a cool reception Thursday from Ben & Jerry's officials, the company's customers and even La Leche League International, the world's oldest breast-feeding support organization, which promotes the practice -- for babies, anyway.

PETA wrote a letter to company founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield on Tuesday, telling them cow's milk is hazardous and that milking them is cruel.

"If Ben and Jerry's replaced the cow's milk in its ice cream with breast milk, your customers -- and cows -- would reap the benefits," wrote Tracy Reiman, executive vice president of the animal rights advocacy group. She said dairy products have been linked to juvenile diabetes, allergies and obesity.

Ashley Byrne, a campaign coordinator for PETA, acknowledged the implausibility of substituting breast milk for cow's milk but said it's no stranger than humans consuming the milk of another species.

"We're aware this idea is somewhat absurd, and that putting it into practice is a stretch. At the time same, it's pretty absurd for us to be drinking the milk of cows," she said.

It takes about 12 pounds -- or 1 1/2 gallons of milk -- to make a gallon of ice cream. Ben & Jerry's, which gets its milk exclusively from Vermont cows, won't say how much milk it uses or how much ice cream it sells.

At the Ben & Jerry's factory in Waterbury, consumers gave a collective "Ewww" to the idea Thursday.

"It's kind of creepy," said Jeff Waugh, 42, of Dayton, Ohio.

"I think it's a little nutty," said the Rev. Roger Wooton, 83, of Malden, Mass., finishing up a cup of Heath Bar Crunch.

"How would they get all that milk?" said his wife, Jane Wooton, 77.

Jen Wahlbrink, 34, of Phoenix, who breast-fed her 11-month-old son, Cameron, said she wouldn't touch ice cream made from mother's milk. She remembers her nursing days -- and not that fondly.

"The (breast) pumps just weren't that much fun. You really do feel like a cow," she said, cradling her son in her hands.

I filled up my gas tank today at the Fred Meyers in Snohomish. (I try to only buy fuel there, If you spend more than 100$ a month on groceries you save ten cents a gallon) It was 3.49 a gallon!!! filled the tank for 58$. Hallelujah!

I love this. It is so good that when we seek him, call out to him, cry out to him, truly hunger for him, we can find him. I think he wants us to be like Navy Seals. Highly trained special agents for Jesus.
